Hey all I just got the iPhone 3g which is really cool! I tried to download apps but it asks me for my Apple ID which I don't have. I then find out that I need to set one up through iTunes, simple right? WRONG! I don't know what it is but for some reason my iTunes cannot connect to the store nor can my iPhone connect to iTunes even through the 3g network. Should I call Apple? or does anyone have any thoughts? I am also living in dorms with WiFi. Thanks

Do you have any proxies enabled on your laptop. Even if you don't your college, iike my previous one, may have blocked certain ports. This shouldn't really effect iTunes due to the ports it uses. Your best bet is to query this with college network admin as to the networks requirements or port blocking. Your college may actually require you to run through a proxy to access the web or certain services. Again you made need to query the admin guys.

As for the iPhone on 3g, no idea but again maybe check proxy requirements. It may need to be synced with your laptop itunes account before granting access on the iPhone but I'm not sure about that. If it does sorting the laptop should sort the iPhone.

Heres a list of all Apple related ports and the respective protocols, clients and softwares that use each one.

    Good luck.

Sounds to me like your router has the ports closed that need to be open in order to connect to the iTunes store. You'll have to enable sharing I believe to share your library with the iPhone as well.
