Anyone know the actual release date for the 3g iPads in store? I am waiting to grab mine when they are available.

Also, I am going with the 16g version as my current iPhone is a 32 and I don't use anywhere near it. But my concern is some of the iPad apps size vs iPhone apps. Anything to worry about here? Or is the storage more for how much music and movies you want? I do not have a lot of music that I sync.

    Thanks all!

    get 32.

get 3G if you can't tether your iPhone to it for some reason (I can and do).

Tether? Explain this to me. I have an iPhone but had no idea we could tether the two to use the 3g??

The only way to tether is to jailbreak the iPhone. Go with the 32, my iPhone is 16 (and I'm only useing 9) but im already over 18 on the iPad. I find myself using the iPad for much more than I expected. I also plan to get the camera kit and use more space to store photos while I'm on vacation.

Jervis> thank you for your reply. That is exactly what I needed to hear. Someones comparison of their phone to the ipad. I am the same way. My iphone has over 9gig available, so I was assuming i would not need more space.

    Thanks again!

16gb means about 15 gbs of storage for all your music, videos, apps ebooks and files (if you plan on being productive, writing, drawing, recording, etc)

2gb would be enough for all the "others", ebooks and apps.

Now you have 13gb for music and video.

Full length movie in the right resolution and format for the iPad is about 2.5gb.

So ask yourself, how many videos and music will you be carrying on it.

If it's just a few movies and a handful of albums 16gb would be fine.

If you want to carry around half a dozen movies and and your favorite playlists from home then you might want to consider an upgrade.

Also, you could always only carry movies on the iPad while keeping all your music on your iPhone.

Just my opinion but I think storage space on such a device is a question only you can answer.

but i think a 32gb would be a good choice 16gb is not enough if you are going to watch movies

If you get a 16GB you will wish you got the 32GB.

I don't understand how you can say this with such certainty to someone you don't know.

The iPad is "allegedly" a device that does more than playback media ... Maybe his priorities differ from yours. Maybe he already has a real computer to handle his serious computing. Maybe he just wants an iPad because he's got money for toys lying around.

Point is, everyone uses such devices for different things

    Why not.
16GB is not a lot of storage,iPad apps are bigger and will use more space, through in some movies and Ebooks=space gone.
Hey if he thinks or you think 16GB's is enough than great.
    Just my own humble opinion.

I've got a 16gb iPad and I'm more than happy with the disk space. This is not a laptop replacement. As a e-book reader, PDF viewer, web browser. and a netflix/airvideo streamer, 16gb is plenty.

Also, even with Apps + Kindle eBooks + documents for iWorks, I still have around 12 gb to go. That's enough space for at least 8 SD movies. To me, the 16gb model is the sweet spot in the lineup.

In my humble opinion, if you approach the iPad like a companion device to a regular laptop (or even a damn netbook), it will make you happy even with 16gb.

    Heck, I think netbook+ipad > laptop+netbook.

I'm thinking the same thing. The iPad is more for web browsing, reading ebooks, and apps than storing entire movie/music collections on it. I fooled around with the 32 gb version for a week before returning it. Played plants vs. zombies, watched an entire season of Lost, used it as a clock radio when docked - terrific little bugger. I exchanged it for a Macbook Pro, but if I had the cash, I'd pick up the 16 gb version in a heartbeat.

No need to argue since you are all right in your own way. It all comes down to what you'll use it for. The OP seemed happy with my response so perhaps he has similar habits.

How is the speed when you tether your iPad to your phone? Should be just the same as if you had the 3G iPad, right?

No, speeds will depend somewhat on the wireless hardware and other factors -- the antenna, wireless chipset (?) and the cpu SOC are different on the iPhone 3G/3GS and the iPad.

i got the 16gb and im not suing it to the full extent.
but the thing is, if you got the money, get the 3G, 32GB for huge increase in resale value.

I have a 32 GB iPad and right now there's 16.62 GB free. If you want to keep a season of a TV shows available, you can use up storage quite quickly. One problem is that keeping all of this stuff on the iPad uses up storage on my MacBook Pro. I've been think of syncing the iPad to my desktop instead which has far more storage available.
