    iMac 2011 HDDs

    I didn't see this anywhere, so I figured I would give people the heads up.

    They are now proprietary, and you will not be able to upgrade them, based on 2 things.

    1. Its a 7 pin rather then 5 pin connector.

    2. System will not POST without an "Apple" HDD.


    Sad day for iMacs :(

    I have already come across one workaround that was developed shortly after they were updated a month or two ago. I think it still a work in progress but gone are the days when you could just pop it open and slap another 2.5" hard drive in there. Thankfully Apple didn't do that with the 2011 MBP line but it might be a sign of things to come especially since the 2010 and 2011 MBAs have their own strange storage setup. It might be only a matter of time until Apple does something similar to the MBPs and even Mac Mini.
