Sorry to say, but Apple's site hasn't been updated at all to reflect this.

Some people on MacRumors said they received confirmation of their pre-order being shipped, but no one has received it yet.

Not quite true, the button has switched from "Pre-order" to "add to cart". Although it still says shipping Jan.
Some people have reported seeing it at best buy. I guess we will findout more over the next few days.
    a
    :)
ps there are a few reports from users over at macrumours who have received their copies today. So my guess is that there should be wide spread availability by the end of the week !

Latest news for those who are interested:

Some BestBuy stores will hold the box for you at customer service for a couple of hours if you call (my wife just got back with hers an hour ago), although not all BB locations are listing the item as available in-store yet... but that has changed as the day has gone on, with more in west FL now showing it in-stock compared to this morning. And there are a few reports of Apple/BB employees in the Northeast telling folks that they have to hold it back until the official release tomorrow. Apple retail stores will not release it until tomorrow, confirmed with a phone call to my local Apple store right before noon.

Best bet, if you absolutely must have it today, is to order it online from BestBuy using IN-STORE pickup, and then drive to get it with your email confirmation. No reports yet on macrumors or elsewhere of people getting to the store and being told that their email confirmation is incorrect (early pics already of people showing off their new box with their email invoice), so that would seem to be the ideal way to have it in-hand today.

Mine should be here tomorrow. Not a huge iLife user, but I'm still pretty excited to check out the new iPhoto features.

anyone see any real good reason to upgrade from 08? The only new thing appears to be easier video editing, faces, and places. Yawn.

direct/smart ftp upload to any server from iWeb.
This feature alone is worth the upgrade for me.

I wish I realized iLife '09 was being released today. I just took delivery of my MBP yesterday and now I have to pay for the upgrade. It's only $13, but I still feel like I got chumped.

My copy shipped today. Should get it Friday, I'm pretty excited - especially with the update to iMovie.

Anyone try it already and have any impressions?

Just got and installed my copy !
I just installed it directly over the top of 08.. and no issues at all.

    Here are my first impressions:

    iPhoto:
    * needed to upgrade my library upon first boot, now there is no going back.
    * geo-tagging: it kinda pointless for me as only my iphone has a gps, so 99% of my photos don't have location data.

    * Face recognition: it works reasonably well, although even after teaching iphoto a few times what my face looks like, there were still quite a few girls showing up as me, so either I'm alot less blokey than I think or this feature still needs a bit of work... I leading towards the later.

    * I have tried it out on my dog and so far its been a bit hit and miss, it has pulled out 2 photos by itself but the majority of the time it doesn't recognize the dog at all... maybe this will improve with more teaching?

    iWeb:
Just loaded it up and my old website seemed to be fine. It connects to my ftp server fine and I will re-upload it tonight to checkout how it goes along with the facebook plugin.

That's all I have checked so far but I will post back with more info over the next few days.

Is there an upgrade price for owners or do we have to buy the box version?

You have to buy the box version, unless you bought your Mac after January 6th. January 6th is the cutoff date. Sorry!

The face recognition feature is far from perfect. It also doesn't recommend extremely similar (as in, "Let me take a second one, in case the first one didn't turn out,") pictures for tagging after I manually tag a picture.

It needs some work. I hope we'll see that work in an update, rather than in iLife 2010, however. Does Apple do updates that big for their iLife and iWork suites?

They just might. I'm not really sure if they did any iPhoto '08 updates along the last year, but they just might do it for '09.

I love the new features by the way. I've been playing with iPhoto for hours now, re-doing all my library. Great stuff! :D

Same thing here, in away I hate the new face tagging, its alittle to addictive, as I too wasted hours yesterday... and will probably waste more over the coming weeks.. lol
