Turning on the OS X Firewall is enough when you're on a Mac. You don't need antivirus on OS X yet.

And no, you don't need to buy the Airport Extreme for wireless internet. All Macs have a built-in Airport card (just Apple's name for a wireless card) and it can connect to virtually any router. You don't have to buy Apple's router (the Airport Extreme).

And these two links may be of interest to you while you're considering OS X.

And of course, for those applications that are Windows only, you can run Windows on your Mac.

Its pretty easy, just go to System Preferences and in the search box on the top right corner of the System Preferences window type "Firewall". You will be able to turn on the Firewall there.
