Try plugging it into another monitor. If it works, the original monitor is busted. If it still doesn't, we'll have to dig deeper.

What do you mean by "it doesnt respond to anything"? What troubleshooting steps have you taken? Are you in the OS when it locks up on you? Is it stuck on a blue screen on boot up?

Like others have stated, try connecting the system to an external monitor. If things are showing up then this could rule out the video card and this is probably a hardware issue associated with your laptop's display. If you don't have an external monitor and live near an Apple Store, take it there. Before you go, make sure you setup an appointment to expedite the process. See link below to setup an appointment:

Like Seshan said, it's most likely a hardware failure. Could be the HDD or CCFL. :(

Preferably, the very same cable you use currently. But even if you can't, use any cable that works. The important thing is that if you can display an image on another monitor, then the original monitor is broken.

So you hear the chime at boot up, and then the system freezes? Have you tried to boot in to Safe Mode (hold the Shift key while the machine is starting up). Did you install any updates prior to this problem occuring?

That seems to be a serious problem. Call Apple and have them guide you.

Dont you need an adapter to hook up to an external monitor? I looked at the iBook G4 that we have at work, and there is no standard VGA or DVI port on that machine.

**Just did some searching - you are going to need an adapter, as well as a standard VGA or DVI cable in order to connect to an external monitor. Check out this forum for some additional info:
