I currently have a PowerBook G4 that is way out of date. I am looking for a new laptop for school/work. I am studying engineering so I would need something that can run adobe cs4, 3d studio max, cad programs, and also games. I cant decide between a MacBook Pro 15" with the 3.06Ghz processor or maybe something along the lines of a Sager NP9280/NP5797, or an ASUS w90. I really do like the quality and style of apple but its overpriced and the specs arent as great as the other two. I need to place an order asap and I am still undecided....sigh

Well, it really depends on what you're looking for in the notebook. If you're looking for portability/great design/good support/ and of course OSX, then you should definitely pick the MBP.

But if those things are not of great of importance and gaming is an really important factor for you then maybe a SAGER is the way to go.

Given the programs you want to run I would suggest sticking with a Windows machine, as you are likely to have to use bootcamp/XP/7 on the mac to run CAD/3DMax/games. ASUS make some very good looking well made lappies, although I would checkout that forum for details/problems with specific models.

Not that darn great. I was expecting a smooth transition, with the guys in the forum going on about how beautiful windows was and crap.

But there a lot of driver issues. For example, the backlight in the keyboard never swtiches off.

If windows is gonna be your mainstay. Then stay with a windows laptop.

But if you want to give osx a try, the MBP is one hell of a machine.

Boot Camp only works on Intel Macs. So a G4 will not be able to dual boot Windows.

Also, remember that discussions about running OS X on non-Apple hardware is strictly against the forum rules. The accounts of all members participating in such discussion will receive disciplinary action and may be permanently banned.
