is this for real media files, or just any media.
if ita just files, rightclick>get info>change it to the program you want to open them, then check the box that says change for all files of that type.
although i dunno offhand if theres other programs that real files. probably are, but i dunno. -
Nevermind! I thought there was an OSX version of Real Alternative, apparently there isn't.

here's a hint, stop using anything associated with realPlayer, and just start using VLC+Quicktime.

now the next question is, what are the alternatives than realplayer?

I have to use real player for c-span.org, otherwise I'd never use it...

Yeah for PC Real Alt + MPC is the best. I have no idea what to use for Mac. I would like to know too. I have the entire dragon ball & dragonball z series in a ultra ultra compressed real format.

Realplayer IS for Mac. It's always been available for Mac since day one and there's never been a time that it wasn't available for Mac. Here's the link.

RMVB on OSX is a pita. I use VLC and I dont think there is any way to make it play. Lots of anime I watch are in RMVB so I have to Vmware into Windows to watch it.

Personally I hate real player as well, and I don't understand why they won't open source or provide their codec free to other players. If they did many years ago, I would think that their format would be much more popular than it is today. -
Real has been available for mac all along.

I actually don't have any problem with Realplayer on Mac. Maybe there are steps that need to pay attention during setup, but I'm pretty sure Realplayer was simply a drag and drop program. And Realplayer on Mac has never taken over my file associations. Realplayer on Mac also doesn't default to some advertising content page when you open it like on Windows and presumably the drag & drop nature means it's less insidious than the Windows version to uninstall. I hardly ever use Realplayer for Mac at all, but I have it installed and have had no problems. (This is with the latest version 11, which actually looks fairly Mac-like and isn't just porting the Windows UI.)
i hate real player
