I need to buy a laptop for college and the $100 off and free ipod touch is making the macbook very appealing. I want to do some casual gaming on it (nothing made from 2006-2008) and I was wondering how the macbook will hold up. The only new game I'm looking forward to is Starcraft 2, and hopefully, the requirements aren't too high. Also, I've seen youtube videos of games running smoothly on a x3100, but its on a windows xp/vista PC. How does bootcamp compare to the performance of an actual windows PC?

    thanks

Bootcamp = multiboot, not some kind of virtual machine. It allows Windows to run just like on a normal PC.
I think X3100 can run well all the games which were released in earlier than 2005, but you can forget about starcraft II.

oh well, i knew starcraft 2 was a stretch. but its great to hear i can still play some semi-recent games on a macbook. i've even seen videos of call of duty 4 running on a x3100 with inferior cpu and ram than in a macbook. seems like the perfect laptop for me (with a free ipod touch too!)

    thanks a lot.

You'll probably be able to run the games, but don't expect anything blistering in terms of performance or settings. It's definitely not a gaming computer.

To answer your question more directly, Windows through Boot Camp is going to be pretty much exactly the same as Windows on a PC. I, personally, haven't found any issues at all (well, the included 8600M GT driver with Boot Camp was pretty poor, but a quick trip to laptopvideo2go.com fixed that...)

    your kidding right?

Blizzard would never make the mistake of having SC2 not run on x3100. They would lose out big time. Its a sequel long time coming, they want to get ALL THE SALES.

x3100 will handle it, but itll be on lower settings for sure.

You can bet on this, the x3100 will run sc2 playable.
