Alright.... the auto sleep starts to annoy me. I find it unnecessary to go to sleep mode if I only want to move my mbp from my bedroom to my living room or from a classroom to another classroom. Especially when I am in the middle of downloading things.

I did google, but I got is disable safe sleep for faster sleep on lid close, which is not I want. In addition to that, I would like to use my mbp as a desktop. Is it possible to power on the macbook pro w/o pressing the power button but with an external keyboard? (from shut down mode)

Try Insomniax for preventing it from sleeping when the lid is closed.

Well if you go into the Energy Saver, you can adjust the times that it takes the computer to go to sleep, or make it so that it never goes to sleep.

I have mine setup so that it doesnt go to sleep when its plugged in, but it will turn off the display.

But yea, you could create a custom profile, and do it like that.

But the easiest way is to get Caffeine. It puts a little icon in your menu bar, just click on it and it prevents the screen from dimming, and itll keep the laptop awake. Click again, and it goes back to normal. You can turn off the backlight if you want to save battery and still have the laptop on. Thats what I do all the time.
