everytime i want to access the hard drive on my desktop, i have to go to finder and go>connect to server, after that, the hard drive will appear under shared in finder. however, it disappears when i restart. is there a way to create a shortcut to the hard drive on my desktop?

what type of network drive is it?

you might try making an alias of the drive, just hold Cmd+Alt/Option while dragging and drop it on your desktop, you could even put it in your dock.

You must make an alias of a folder within the drive (not the drive itself) otherwise it will not work. Just put all the files on the drive inside of a folder. Or you can save the connection as a Favorite Server. Finder > Go > Connect to Server. Enter the address and click the + button.

also, keep in mind that all of your most recent network locations (Servers) are saved in the recent items section of the "Apple" menu on your menu bar.

with a shared folder on another computer on my network, in this case the downloads folder on my Fujitsu, if I mount the volume and then simply create an alias of that volume, it functions properly.

so basically, if both of the machines are turned of or diconnected from the network, then reconnected, the Alias still functions fine and the volume will be mounted again, as long as it is available.
