Find the serial number (remove the battery and it should be in the battery bay somewhere), then go to http://support.apple.com/specs/ and you'll have your answer. It might not tell you the exact configuration you have, but it'll tell you the general specifications.

Nah, I don't think there's an Apple website that you can just paste a serial number in, and get the complete specs. At least I haven't heard of anything like that. (whoops, Starlight actually had an answer, who would have thought! :D )

But really, can't turn it on?

Checking the box would be the easiest way, turning it on would be to, but if it was stolen and the batter is dead, and he needs the specs to sell it... Not accusing you or anything. Just saying.

Usually, next to the serial number are the specs of the machine. Pull the battery and take a look. You can also determine the specs by the part number if it is a standard config machine.

Because unless you can 100% prove that he stole it, you should give him the benefit of the doubt and answer questions if you can.
