why the headphone is in the back? Because my gf moved in with me, I started using headphone on my imac a lot. It is annoying that I have to reach the back unplug my speak and plug in the headphone.

Because, and I'm going to get killed for saying this, Apple prefers form over functionality.

This "form over functionality" is the reason my dad sold his MacBook Pro two months after buying it. I did use the MBP a few times, and both the OS and the computer itself made me desperate sometimes because of issues like this.

The MacBook Air is even worse in this respect. Very good looks indeed (a colleague at work has one), but I wouldn't use it even if I got one for free.

@Lithus: so, that makes two of us asking to be killed now...

Form over function with the macbooks as well. the fan blows hot air constantly on the LCD bezel so the glue eventually comes undone on the bottom.

@null84: No, they can't, because if you don't have anything plugged in it it will be (gasp!) a visible unused port.

Well, the MacBook's audio out jack is on the left side :p. For the iMac, its just design, really...

If you had some free time, you could actually make somethin pretty cool. First, get a Y adapter to plug into the headphone slot on the iMac. Plug the speakers into one hole, and a headphone extender into the other. Then run the headphone extender to the front/side of the desk. You could either set it on top (ew), glue it to the bottom, or if you really wanted to get into it, shave out some of the desk and put it in the desk, so that there was just a plug in the desk. That would obviously be the coolest, but also not really necessary and sorta time consuming.

I don't exactly know which MBP he had (I think the processor was a dual 2.4 GHz), it was pretty recent.

He sold it because of several things, most of which fall into the "form over functionality" issue. Lack of 3 (or even 2) mouse buttons in the touchpad was one of the main reasons if I recall. I posted a reasonably thorough post here at NBR.com when he sold it, search the posts I wrote and you'll find it.

I'm too lazy to search for the post :p

But he didn't like it with the two finger right click? Coming into mac as a long term Windows user, I MUCH prefer the method of right clicking on the MBP as opposed to other laptops. It used to be one of the big points I attacked Apple on, but now... I'd be hard pressed to ever buy another Apple laptop if they put in two separate physical trackpad buttons.

Too bad he didn't like it!
