Im needing to get a new notebook for college and I have been doing a lot of research for this. The macbook fits what im looking for in a notebook but with all the rumors that are floating around about them coming out with a new one im shy to pull the trigger. I have a iphone 3g and I remember the rumors floating then about the phone and i waited a couple months for it to come out, however with the notebook i cant wait that long. I also understand that in the computer world there is always something better coming out and that doesnt bother me, i just dont want to get a macbook and then one month later steve comes out in his black shirt and jeans and says look at our new macbooks :mad2: . also im on somewhat of a budget so i have to stay in the $1300 and under so with the talk about metal cases and multi touch pads that would tell me the price is going up, right? I understand that anything anyone say is speculation because there is only one person that really knows whats going to happen.

its all but confirmed that the new macbooks will be aluminum cased, LED screen for better battery life. Apple is really trying to go eco friendly.

Apple computers usually follow a refresh schedule, though i cant remember how often it is. I do know this...All the Macs are overdue for an upgrade.

Rumors are hinting towards an Oct 14 announcement day.

I believe the refresh cycle is every 6 months.

I think you should wait until the rumored date of October 14. Use computers in labs or the library for work and printing, and your iPhone for internet. I think waiting for about two more weeks is going to be well worth it compared to buying a Macbook right now.

Definitely wait at this point, I think there is enough credible evidence that at least one Mac notebook will be updated and I'm pretty sure both will be along the way. Both are definitely overdue.

tell you what. i usually tell people go for it.... however, i dont think you should, especially for macbook. I myself got a macbook pro few weeks ago, but i had free ipod touch and printer. I am not trying to make fun or pick on macbook. I just think there can be huge improvements on it.

Here is what i suggest you do:
get a used macbook pro or used imac
get thinkpad and sell it when new macbook is out

I agree with everyone: WAIT! Normally, I, too, do not suggest waiting because one can wait until the end of the time for something newer and better, but right now, Apple has CONFIRMED that it will be aggressive with the MacBook's price, and we all know that the revisions are coming on the 14th.

I don't know if it's certain about the LED LCD though. This is still just a rumor, although a likely true one. I would be surprised if the keyboards will be backlit on standard models. Apple will probably have it as an option.

I do hope they'll be aggressive (as in to other competitions) on MBP too :p

I'd say its likely how the MacBook Air screen looks, which I think is gorgeous. LED-backlighting will bring even brighter displays while being more environmentally friendly.

I doubt the fingerprint feature, which isn't new, and Apple hasn't adopted it anyway.

The LED screens are all but confirmed. Apple wants to be greener.
Other rumors around the web are:
    Bluray support
16:9 screens vs the 16:10 which is used today on macs.
Glass covered screens just like the iMac.
A pro and regular line 13",15", and 17" MacBook. This means dedicated graphic in a smaller package as well as a cheaper 15" and 17".
Glass touchpad with full multitouch support just like the iPhone/ iPod touch.

These are just a few rumor. That is all the are at this point. But if any of these are announce on october 14, it would be well worth it to wait.

The thing about Apple and its products is, if it doesn't look nicely done, they won't implement it on their computers. So that's the same reason I believe they didn't use optical drives that panned out, as that looks bad aesthetically, instead opting for a clean and sleek slot-loading drive.

Unless they can somehow make the fingerprint scanner look nice (because usually it just looks like a random trench on the palmrest), I doubt Apple will implement it. Maybe something to do with the trackpad, that'd be cool. And most likely it would arrive on the MBP first.
