Download & Install the Logitech Control Center for OS X from Logitech's website, if they support Mac OS X. What is the name/model of your mouse?

Does it have button remapping software? If it does you could map apple left cursor and apple right cursor to it as they're the keyboard shortcuts for back and forward... (it's alt left and alt right on a pc if I recall). If you can't find the drivers etc or if it doesn't have it's own button remapping software I'm pretty sure there are open source or freeware versions available.

Have a look at either USBoverdrive or SteerMouse for generic mouse configurators.

If you're running Leopard, download LCC 2.4 and it should be able to detect the mouse and let you configure it
