hi, im wondering if i can filled my external harddrive in OS X (hfs+) to only have 1% left of free space. although in this case the drive (500gb freeagent pro) will have 5gb of free space.
i will only used the drive to store and read data, i will not run any application from the drive.
is it ok to do this? will i lost any data or function (eg. journaling or spotlight will operate flaky) as a result of this?

You can fill an external storage device as much as it can take, since it does not need additional space to store temporary OS files etc.

I've had 0mb of space left on my main osx drive, and everything still worked fine. So if its an external, it probably should be fine too.

thanks
btw, do you guys know by any chance if Time Machine backup will take over the entire drive until it is filled to the max (less the 1 percent)
external hard drive filled - 1% free space left
