I know this is a stupid question ;)

I have a Samsung syncmaster 20 inch LCD monitor, with a native resolution of 1680X1020.

When I connect my macbook to the Samsung to do DVD viewing, do I have to install the Samsung driver into the Macbook?

    Thanks :)

No. Monitors do not need drivers, though you have the resolution wrong.

The re-adjust part is simply your choice. Well that also depends on your macbook...what is the native resolution on your macbook? Your external monitor might not even have the resolution. But I would go to the native resolution for your external monitor. Oh btw no drivers needed. The only thing you need is your graphics driver and thats all. :)

The native resolution of my macbook is 1280X800, it's a 1st generation white macbook.

the native resolution of the external monitor is 1680X1020.

Ok yeah so then I would push the native resolution to the eternal lcd and not your macs cuz that would look really bad on the external. Well I never owned a mac so I don't know how the technical things go, but you need a graphics card driver. Usually they are nvidia or ATI.

Its all set for you already. Just plug in that display, and I'm pretty sure the resolution should be 1680x1050 :).
