Most mainstream cameras will work with the MacBook. I personally think Canon cameras are the best, Sony cameras have a great design. HP cameras are horrible.

And if you want a better opinion on digital cameras, register at NBR's sister site, Digital Camera Review :).

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, I have a Canon Powershot SD800IS. Nice design, nice screen, awesome features and picture quality.

check out the powershot 700. small, lightweight, excellent build/features, and rave reviews. i have the sd700 and its great. i would also consider the sd850 for ~350 as well.

The Powershot is a good line created by Canon. I think the newest one is SD1000, which is not too expensive either. I currently own a Panasonic Lumix TZ3 I think. It was about $350. Like Sam mentioned, HP digital cameras are horrible.

The XT will work fine with the Macbook. I've come across nothing wrong.
