will the size of the hard drive affect the overall performance of the iBook? if not, I'll just go with the 40GB hard drive.
please answer quickly :D . I want to get my iBook as fast as I can click.

No, hard drive size has no real effect on performance, as long as you don't fill up so much space you reduce the size of your page file (though that may not be a factor on OSX, I'm not sure how Apple's OS handles it's swapping).

Hard drive speed, on the other hand, has a major impact on performance. That's not very relevant, though, seeing as all of Apple's iBooks have only one choice, 5400RPM (which is speedier than 4200RPM, if not fantastic).

I thought iBooks came with 4200RPM drives and Powerbooks came with 5400RPM drives.

The Apple website states that the hard drive in the iBooks runs at 4200 rpm.

Sorry, I guess the link only works if you're in the Apple site...when you go the Apple Store website and configure an iBook, click on the "Learn More" option under Hard Drive.

go for the biggest you can afford
get @ least 80 gigs cuz i got the 60 and would like to have more esp. if u have a lot of mp3's and digi pics.

4200 rpm is not the fastest but my ibook hard drive gets pretty warm and 5400 will only run hotter.

Anyone have any idea how much memory is really left on the hard drive after OS X and the essential programs are installed?
