I bought a 17" macbook pro in the Spring of 2009, all the hardware is basic stock as is the operating system. Recently my cursor has ben acting weird. It will often jump or move when I am not touching the trackpad or computer at all. At first it was slughish and nonresponive but now without touching the trackpad the cursor moves in a liner pattern, most of the time it resembles the way in which a child may move their finger along a line when learning to read. SOmetimes though the cursor makes large jumps and will resize the text or bring up programs that I don't want at that time. I have turned off bluetooth and wireless but the problem still persist. Also it only moves when not touching the trackpad if I am touching it the cursor will remain still, but one I remove my finger and it starts moving I often have to move my finger in circles around on the trackpad to regain control of the cursor. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be welcome thanks

    Welcome to NBR!!!

It sounds like a hardware problem, but it could be a software/OS problem. You should try re-installing OS X.
