since there arnt any vents on the bottom of apples anything that is made to cool in from underneath wouldnt really do much. MBPs get hot, its how they are made, i wouldnt worry about the heat unless it is really bad or starts shuting down.

Heat can damage a notebook over prolonged times, even if it's not causing immediate damage.

As for a cooling pad - they'll lower internal temps. about 5-15 degrees centigrade depending upon what type you buy. I know companies like Vantec and Targus have some mats/fans for notebooks.

I have the Targus cooling pad, it helps the notebook run about 5 C cooler, but I also always have my notebook in an air conditioned area at a constant level.

My Macbook generally runs around 48 idle, and about 63 under load. Pretty good levels for a dual core processor.

Liquid Nitrogen misted in the intake vent...nice and chilly.

Unless you are getting temps into 75-80C constantly, you'll probably never see the damage you caused to your processor over the time you'll own the computer. Heat damages circuits...but it usually takes a ton of cycles if you don't stress it too much.

It will do SOMETHING, even if it only lowers temps. by a few degrees centigrade.

Get a merom. From the benchmarking, it would supposely run cooler than the current duo core.

I agree with lunateck. I think "heat" is one of the main gripes with the new MB's. Personally, I'm waiting for Merom since it will provide more bang for the buck and run cooler. I think Apple will be one of the early adopters. Look for them to be out by the end of next month.
