Are locks for Macbook Pro's any different for a regular computer lock?
are there any specific locks for different computers, or are they all universal?

    thanks

and any recommendations for both price and quality would be appreciated.

The locks are the same for the mbp's. Personally if you want it to be anything more than a deterrent to keep honest people honest, stay away from the circular key'd locks since they can be opened in a minute with some paper. The combo locks seem to have issues with the combination changing by themselves.

The best one is the newer Kensington DS lock with a normal key that's not circular, but it's also one of the most expensive. Here's a link to it: http://www.amazon.com/Kensington-64...1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1219181006&sr=8-1

    Thanks for the reply.

I've read alot on how poor quality the kensington locks are and how they degrade the lock slot, specifically the MBP lock slot as seen here: [IMG]

Do you know of any other normal key locks that could be more compatible with the MBP?

That picture looks like an extreme case where the mbp was moved around a lot or something while the lock is on. I doubt that will happen if you use it carefully.

There's a couple of other brands that make locks like Targus (horrible lock reviews), but it seems like if you want a nice lock the kensington I linked is probably the best bet. I think there are a couple of reviews on amazon relating to the mbp. Most of the other locks don't get good reviews.

Personally I got this one http://www.pcguardian.com/products/2900_2901_2907_ez_keyed.html because it was so cheap on ebay (~$10, didn't want to pay so much for a lock, not going to use it much and just needed a simple deterrant). I thought what the hell, even though it's a circular lock, it got decent reviews and I might as well give it a try. I should be receiving it in the next day or 2, so I'll let you know if you want once I get it.

No it's not. This is the one with orange keys that are circular (the ones that can be broken in a couple minutes. The one I linked on amazon use the red keys that are non circular and like normal keys. Just up to you if you want to pay a premium for that one.

Just looked on the apple site and the red normal keyed kensington isn't on there.
