Wellll... You could always find a proxy in the United States.

Proxy: Re-routing your internet connection through a website/space so that trackers think that your connection is coming from a different location than it really is.

I use one at work to connect to Radio Station networks only available in the States (I'm in Canada).

If you use Firefox, look up 'Firefox proxy addons', pick one of those.

@dave.ladner: thanks, but using it is not the problem. what i want to do is to check it for trojans or a virus before i use it, as the program did not come from the writers website.

Uhh, just to clarify, are we talking about a mac or a pc?

If it is mac, people often recommend clamxav. If its pc, then you posted int he wrong section.

hi, downloaded dmg file on to my pc but to transfer on to my daughters mbp.
i assume a scan with my pc virus checker would not detect a mac virus?
will give clamxav a try, thanks.

why would you use a program that came from an untrusted 3rd party source, instead of just getting it from the actual company that makes it?

Maybe find someone you trust, out of the country to download it for you, and then give you a copy, and not go through an untrusted website.

Learn something new everyday! Avast! is now available for mac o_O

Good freeware anti-virus [I've been using it on my PCs for years] You will need to register, but you never HAVE to pay for it.

I have not used the Mac version, but it's very light weight [does not hog a ton of resources] on PC.

[My apologies, the Avast! for mac edition is a 60 day trial, after which you must apparently buy it. Will work for your one file, but I cannot recommend a paid version of a free program just because the platform has shifted.]
