just use boot camp assistant to restore your hard drive to 1 partition and then repartition it and install xp...your OS X installation will be fine.

Use the Boot Camp Assistant to first remove the existing Windows partition, and then run it again to create a new one.

hmmmm so i think i may of hit a bit of a problem, my "boot camp assistant beta has expired" so does this mean my only way is to upgrade to leopard just to do something that has nothing to do with leopard?

download winclone. Image the Windows partition to an external drive. Use bootcamp assistant to restore to single partition. Re-bootcamp to selected size. Use winclone to restore the image.

    simple, and works wonderful.

hmmm great. ^ thats a nice way of doing things so that you dont lose everything, although i dont have a external drive and also requires me getting leopard. this is poor by apple, i dont have any need for any of the new features in leopard except for the boot camp utility, which was available to 10.4.11, and now im stuck with 40gb of my drive permanently taken up. i dont think apple will be getting my money for leopard.

You don't even need an External drive for winclone to backup to/restore from.

just so you know, bootcamp is basically just two things:

osx software that helps partition your hard drive.
windows software that helps you manage your drivers

you don't *need* boot camp to be able to install windows. just use a different hard drive partitioning tool, and install windows on the volume of your choice. once in windows, it will be up to you to be able to install the drivers you need.

i recommend saving up and buying leopard anyway. it is really solid.

yeah i know, but its a whole lot easier if i have a program to just do the work for me. i was actually looking in windows at some partitioning stuff and found that there are 2 other hidden partitions on the drive, one that is 128 and one that is 200 mb, just wondering what these are out of curiosity?
