I don't believe it's possible. If it were, i'd imagine it would be very difficult.
They really need to add a DL dvd burner option for the 15" MBP.

Nope... no idea. If they do, it'll be with when they drop merom in or santa rose.

They can't. The dual layer drives are too tall to fit in the 1" case.

**EDIT** Although now I read that the 17" is the same thickness. I am not sure what they were referring to, but from what I hear the drive is too large for the 15" case.

go grap yourself an external burner. you can find a good one made by lacie that comes with apple burning software already bundled with it (Toast or Toast Lite). You can find it around ebay for like a hundred bucks. Its one of the fastest drives out there, and its dual layer. going to cost you the same as a new drive would anyone for the laptop and is going to be faster, run quieter and cooler. Plus you don't have to go through any crazy hard ware issues. A media bay or modular bay in the apple would have been nice for easy switch out of devices but nothings perfect. I say get the external drive.

yeah... but having an external drive... means having an external drive. Not very convenient for those on the go. I'll probably buy another burner myself and put it in an external case.
