I buy my hard drives from frys/outpost.com
They have good sales on Seagates. I picked up a 400gb seagate Sata for 80$ new -
best places to search for hard drives on the cheap are
1) pricegrabber.com or pricerunner.com (search engines for low prices)
2) pricewatch.com (market watch for low prices) -
I always like zipzoomfly. They always seem to have lower prices and they offer free shipping, or 2$ to upgrade to 2nd day air shipping!

thanks all for the fast replies, which brand do you guys prefer, i am going back and forth with seagate and hitachi

I always use newegg, even if they are slightly more expensive than competitors. Which is extremely rare. Plus their shipping is the best and they have a pretty no hassel return policy.
for notebook HD, I'm not sure who I prefer. -
Well, I have Western Digital's in my desktop now. I used to have a seagate in an external enclosure that didn't have any problems. My lappy has a Hitachi, also no problems. I would go with whichever is cheaper. They are both good brands.
