    Sometimes when I drag things to the trash, the trash folder opens and then closes upon emptying the trash from the context menu. Sometimes it doesn't open the trash folder. I would prefer it if it never opened the trash folder when I delete something. Why would I need to immediately see what I just deleted? I tried to figure out if I was doing something different and not noticing it, but I can't replicate this behavior. Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. Can someone provide any insight on what I may be doing that's causing this?

    Where are you choosing delete that opens the folder? I cannot find a way to do that without just clicking to try and open it.

    If you click on a folder in your dock (including the trash icon, which is a folder), or if you "drag-and-hover" over a folder/trash icon on your dock, then that folder will open in the finder.

    So, if you have a file in the finder or on the desktop, and you drag that file to the trash icon on the dock, you may end up accidentally opening the trash folder in the finder.

    Other ways to delete files:

    command-delete
    right-click -> move to trash
