Is apple.com incredibly slow for anyone else? (As in the pages themselves don't load for 10 seconds and then the they don't respond to mouse/keyboard input). No other major website (google/nytimes/facebook/youtube/etc) exhibits this kind of unusable browser hanging performance.

Nope, loads just fine for me. Maybe it's your browser?

Same here, the apple site has always been super slow for me. I use kaspersky internet security, perhaps thats why?

I just went to apple.com and noticed the same thing. It seems to be restricted to Opera. The page loads fairly quickly in FF and Chrome.

Maybe i'm just a conspiracy nut, but I think Apple is letting their website choke IE8. On a Mac with Safari, it's perfect. On Opera for Snow Leopard/Win XP/Win 7, it works ok - a little slower. On IE8 for XP/7 it's just unusable. Latest quicktime installed on windows systems.

it comes and goes... some areas of the website are slower than others. I think its not all ran on a single server. I know last week the store and most of the website was super fast for me, but looking at the ipad and macbook pro sections was EXTREMELY slow (even in Safari)... so I think at times certain parts of the site run by certain servers can get overloaded or have problems.

You shouldn't be using IE anyway. FF and Safari are much better browsers.
