Yes, and it only takes a few minutes. I had a bad drive in a MB and it was replaced in the local store, before the entire machine was replaced.

Probably, ss, if your local store is as busy as those in this area. Actually, I'm pretty sure you can make the appointment online.

Edit: Go here, find your local store and then you can make the appointment.

    1) no its not hard i could have done it.
    2) my grandfather is a construction worker and probably has 50 different types of the tool i need laying around his garage, so getting my hands on the right one isnt my main problem, which is why i need to know if they will charge anything. but hey, i get a chance to go to the mall and see the "sights" so if its free/very cheap ill do it.

Doesn't opening up anything on a MB besides the RAM bay void the warranty though? Better off paying a small service fee and keeping it, than risking breaking a seal or something (if there is any, i don't know, but it's usually the case with warranties) and being screwed if you get a hardware issue in the future.

MacBooks, no. MacBook Pros, it is somewhat up for debate. I have had some Apple people tell me that installing a hard drive on your own voids the entire warranty, but others at Apple have said it only voids the hard drive warranty. I have also gotten the same response about taking it to an Apple Certified Repair Center, so who knows. One thing I do know is Apple will not install a new aftermarket drive in a MBP, and it does not seem worth the risk to my Apple Care at this point.

Well I don't think upgrading the harddrive in a macbook voids the warranty or the harddrive warranty(people at Apple Store,London told my girlfriend so).The interesting thing is Apple has their own manual for the MacBook harddrive replacement on the web. Here it is http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/MacBook_13inch_HardDrive_DIY.pdf

no. the macbook pro is the one that has a voided warrenty by the HD, the macbook is "user upgradable". apple even includes directions on their site for doing it, although the directions miss a big step.

anyway, just got off the phone with the local apple store, and they wont do the upgrade. so ill just have to wait till the next time i go to my grandparents.

They charge a fee only if its after a certain date. I think like 3 months.
