ok um how do i put this. uh, with time machine, it looks like (from the videos and such) that it saves more than one copy of each file, is that how it works? now if your confused leme explain- lets say that TM has been running for 10 days. now, you accidentaly delete a file on the 4th day and dont realize it until the 10th day. so you go into TM and it takes you back to day 4 where the file is there. now that file is also at days 3,2, and 1. so does that mean that there are 4 copies of that file, one for each day, or that there is only one copy of the file and it is just displayed in the 4 days?

There will be only one duplicate file unless you make changes to it. If everyday you change the file, say for example a pages document, then "every day" in time machine it will be a different file occupying space. This is a non issue with small files, if you constantly change huge files then you would need a big hd. Like video producing.
