I dont think there is a link in adium to make a new screen name. But you can just go to www.aim.com and make one online.

Contact list I dont know. Does it work with the aim official client? If you are using aim why dont you use iChat. Adium is pretty bad and featureless.

iChat has fewer features than Adium, wave. I've never had anything happen with it that made me think it was "bad", either. Maybe you're thinking of a different program?

Either way, I submit that the AIM buddy list is server side, so you can copy it over with any program, and have it show up in Adium.

I mostly want video and voice chat and that is the most important feature for me. Adium doesn't have it. That and the lack of offline messeges made me think it was "bad". I dont know why so many people like it. But really all IM programs for Mac and Linux lack in features compared to the official Windows programs of MSN, Yahoo and Skype.

I'm not sure if you can do that or not in Adium. You can export/import Buddy Lists through AIM though. File --> Export/Import, Choose Export Options then Save what you choose to.

FYI, after you're finished with AIM, the installer also has an Uninstall option.

Voice and video is the only thing that Adium doesn't do. I use Skype for that, which BTW doesn't seem to be missing features vs the Windows version.

Adium is way better than the constantly crashing and ad-riddled YM on Windows. I was using Trillian on Windows because YM was so bad - need it for work, so it's pretty important to me. Trillian is not free though, and not as good as Adium.

iChat doesn't work for me because it doesn't to YM, and it's very bad about reconnecting once it's lost the connection. There's always some dialog BS that you need to click away even though it should be obvious that disconnect/reconnect is a rather _frequent_ and _normal_ occurrence on a notebook.

PS: Did you know that YM on Windows displays ads that you can't turn off?
