does anyone know a good backpack of medium size, not too small but not huge either, for MBP 15.4?
I see lots on ebags.com but most of them seem that they wouldn't fit the MBP snug enough to protect it correctly (most say they're for laptops that are 2 or 3 inches thick..)

I just bought a Targus pack. not sure the type of it... but it's got orange, gray and black. One of the smaller ones. I think I bought it for $40 at Best Buy.

I've had two freaking laptop backpacks break this semester. I had a Jansport backpack I bought in middle school, and I gave it up less than a year ago. That lasted over 10 years, and these past two backpacks haven't lasted two year.

BTW, I don't recommend buying a laptop backpack unless you read some heavy reviews. I've bought both my previous on a couple reviews, but no pics. The last one, a Slappa bag, was a POS. Not enough protection for a laptop, and because of that, I have a dented MBP. Make sure it has thick padding!

is the targus bag any good for the MBP? enough padding?

apparently the best rated bag for MBP is the Brenthaven Duo15/professional15, but it seems that it's so well padded that not much else fits in the bag...

It's okay. Not as much padding as I'd like, but I only need this bag for another month (unless work gives me a bag when we get new laptops).

The only other bags I'd probably look at right now would be the really expensive ones, I don't remember the company, but they come with a braincase (slip sleep) that is really nice. But they whole backpack with that is like, $150+.

Yeah, if you settle on getting the Kensington Contour backpack, I could definitely sell you mine. I got it new off of eBay but no longer need it since I returned the laptop I intended to use it with. PM me if you are interested.

You may also consider a notebook sleeve. Something like the Crumpler School Hymn is about $50 and has good padding. It would likely fit in your current bag.

Guys, I am the President of SLAPPA and just learned about this site via a google search. We "made our mark" as a company with our HardBody CD cases and last year made our entrance into laptop bags/cases. For this laptop line we focused on incorporating the same standards of high-quality materials and unique design as has made us successful with our CD cases. When we first launched the laptop line there were 2 design flaws built into our Velocity laptop backpacks that we learned about: (1) was the stitching of the shoulder straps and (2) was the type of padding we used for the dedicated laptop sleeve. When we learned of these 2 issues we immediately stopped selling the original version of the Velocity laptop backpack and worked to fix these problems. The reason for this post is to tell any SLAPPA customers who have the original version of the Velocity backpack that we will replace it with the new version at no cost. We are a small company who is working hard to build a business....and we try to make each and every customer happy.....not a realistic goal, but one that I have set for us as a company. Please e-mail me at [email protected] if you need help with an original version Velocity bag.

    Thanks

    Dominick

Wow, thats some awesome customer service.

As a consumer it means alot to me to see company reps [let alone the president!] out posting on forums and getting involved in the community.

Yeah, I owned one of those POS Slappa backpacks. My MBP has a god damned dent in it because they provide NO protection for thin notebooks. I dunno if mine was an original, but I only bought it 6 months ago. And it was the Velocity Pro or whatever.

But the new Targus one I have, is decent, not much padding though. My recommendation is to go to BB or another store that sells the backpacks, and check them out yourself.

I got the STM messenger bag for computers (Loft, medium) that's built for macbook pros and it's worked great for me. It's been thrown around in my car god knows how many times and sometimes it swings and slams into the wall (not that hard) but the computer looks brand new, so yeah they're pretty good. They're not backpacks though.

Oh not to mention I spilled water on it by accident once.....macbook pro: completely dry. Case: kind of wet, but it's fine now.
