There is a small dent on back my Macbook pro.... I used it less than 2 weeks...

I wouldn't say I am a careless person.... but I need to bring a notebook to class everyday. I have never dented a notebook before, and I owned more than 20 high quality notebook. Is it just me or Macbook pro get dent easily?

P.S. I do have a case when I bring the macbook pro around

I found a link to fix macbook pro. ($400 to get a new case)but not sure Apple certified or not.

    Hi unixphone,

I definitely wouldn't pay $400 to fix a small dent...its unfortunate, but $400 is a lot for a full case replacement for a dent, that might just happen again. I have heard of cases when the MBP gets dents from drops and such and also times when its completely scratch and dent-free after a high drop. So yeah.

It will happen again... and again, and again so I wouldn't bother. Macbook 'Pros' are seemingly built out of papier-mache and will dent easily. You might even notice it warping after a while. There's a good reason they design it to be babied - it can't take a knock and shrug it off like a true 'Pro' machine.

Get a hardcase for your mbp. I had the speck, but moved onto a incase hard shell. Its saved my mac from many many scratches that would happen with a student lifestyle.

Also Vogelbung, MBP's are metal, metal doesn't react the same way that plastic laptop cases do. And the whole 'pro' naming isn't the same as business laptops like thinkpads and so forth.

Yeah, there are many good clear cases or coloured ones if you like those! Good selection.

I have a small dent on my MBP but I don't care, I tried getting a hard shell case but it adds extra weight. I might just sell the MBP and get the newest MBP when they come out. A very good possibility that the chasis will be more durable and harder than the current dent easy metal.

well... i have a soft case for it to travel. I thought of getting a hard-case to cover the macbook pro, but i fear it will get overheat.

You may like to check out the magnesium cases of some machines before saying that.

Different alloys behave differently. Magnesium is incredibly tough, but expensive to machine (the shop I work at will not touch magnesium parts with a 500ft pole).

My Toughbook is magnesium, and yes... I can throw it, beat it, etc, and it holds together. But then again, it is a cast piece of expensive material, and for the luxury of having a durable magnesium case, a Toughbook 3x the price of a similar spec'd machine.

Now, the MacBook Pro wasn't available when I was a tech, but the PowerBook G4 was, and it uses the same case. If it has a dent, something heavy was thrown on it, was slung really hard into something while in your bag, or dropped. Basically, if it happened to a plastic notebook, it might have left a heavy scratch or a small crack, but the nature of plastic is to retain it's shape, where as metals are not so elastic.
