At the moment, like quite a few others, I'm contemplating buying a macbook pro (the 17 inch version) and am off at the weekend to the local apple shop to prod it and give it a whirl.

    Out of curiosity:

How easily do laps sync up with the average UK routers/ISP's? I assume fine but you never know...

I assume replacing memory down the line voids the warrenty?

And lastly do folk have any recommended mice and rucksacks that go well with the 17 inch pro's?

    Thanks!

I can answer some of your questions:

Replacing the RAM will void the warranty.

Mice - mighty mouse (bluetooth) - that's what I have and I love it. It's precise, it's nice to click, and you don't use your USB for it :D

Backpacks - check your apple store for the "back to school" backpack. I have that for the 15" - there should be one for 17" as well.

Oh, and as far as I know, the 17" doesn't feature the LED screen yet...

    Very easily

No. The previous poster got it wrong.

Microsoft bluetooth wireless intellimouse, Logitech V270. I wouldn't recommend the mightymouse because the rollerball and side-squeeze buttons are a bit strange.

I don't believe replacing the RAM will void your warranty.
    Here are some instructions: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303491

Eh, the might mouse is an acquired taste. Try it before you buy it - and I've heard bad stories of them failing a few months in.
I personally use the Logitech VX Revolution - arguably the best laptop mouse in existence :p. Since you're not going to be carrying a 17" MBP around though (are you?), you might try the bigger Logitech MX Revolution instead. Main disadvantage is it uses wireless usb, so might be a problem with the limited # of USB ports on the MBP.

A lot of shops sell backpacks specially tailored to Macbook Pros, especially sleeves.

Brenthaven (which makes the bag mentioned above) is one...Waterfield is another.

I personally am probably going to get the Tom Bihn Brain Bag and Brain Cell.

    No LED on 17".

I know not of mice and UK ISP's, but I can say that opening the computer does not void the warranty, and replacing the memory does not void the warranty. I specifically asked the "genius" *eye roll* about that before I bought one.He also said short of breaking the mbp yourself, you will not void the warranty.

*edit* I should say that I am refferig to APP, not the standard warranty, which may have different terms.

Replacing the memory will not void your warranty. However, do hold onto your old memory as AppleCare will look to new memory first when diagnosing a problem.

Mice, I would stay away from the Mighty Mouse. I really like the MS Intellimouse, but really anything you feel comfortable with is fine.

And your UK router and ISP should work fine with a Mac.

    Good luck!
