I shall order a MacBook (+free iPod+free Printer) very soon and I need to have a clear idea how many days the delivery takes.

I shall buy the 2GB Upgrade via Apple, which adjusts the estimated shipping date from 24hrs to 1-3 days; what I really need to know is how many days it would take for the shipped computer to reach Chicago, 60615

I'd be very glad if people who have recently placed orders through the online store share their experiences.

    Thanks

ps. Do delivery companies actually telephone the customer before making the delivery? Is it an *absolute* necessity to provide a telephone number from which they could readily reach me?

I've heard from multiple accounts that Apple is very accurate with its shipping estimates. So expect it to arrive when Apple estimates it will :p.

So does Apple also estimate a date for the*delivery*, after I place the order?

EDIT: Well, they apparently do. I'm sorry for the superfluous thread.

Why would you pay $135 for 1GB more of RAM when it really costs $40?

i ordered one to chicago as well (hyde park), and it took an even two weeks from submitting the order to playing with my blackbook.

and i agree... just buy ram somewhere else - like newegg - and save half of that 135.

I thought the thread was dumped; thanks for your responses.

Well, considering that standard MacBooks come with 2x512MB modules, one has to replace both sticks in order to upgrade to 2GB.

Shipping included, Corsair 2x1GB modules cost $95 on NewEgg at the moment. So yes, I'm aware that I'm being gouged by Apple*, by an amount of $40 (not $80, folks!); but I've got my own reasons to want to start with 2GB right away, as well as not place multiple orders over the internet these days.

Still, I might get my ram from NewEgg. Another question, then: Is there a way I could sell the 2x512MB that I'd be taking out of the MacBook? Who'd need 512MB modules when standard models come equipped with them already?

(* Dell, by the way, charges $125 for the upgrade to 2GB on the new Inspirons. Why do these companies fall for such petty tricks, when they're masters of much greater ploys?)

Thanks a lot. 2 weeks isn't so good, actually; was there a different shipping estimate for the Blackbook when you ordered it? More than a week would become inconvenient for me, really. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Also, to repeat my original question: Do you absolutely need to provide a working phone number alongside the address? By working, I mean a phone number where you'd be readily reachable. I'm moving in from abroad, actually, and won't likely have a phone number for some time.

some people with an older version of macbooks might use them, and remember, that that ram will work in any notebook that uses that speed ram, its not Mac only ram.

sorry, dont know the answer to that one, but i think youll be safe to just give a cell number or sumthing

there was no difference in shipping estimates between blacks and whites. just know that it will take at LEAST one week. 3-4 days from china to US and another couple days to get to you. i dont think having a phone number is really a big deal. i was never called, and when i asked about my order they didnt need it.

as for ram, if you have cash then 2gb straight from apple is aight. i surely understand not ordering too much over the 'net, especially since i had my numbers stolen a few months ago... not cool.

I would say to get extra RAM from third parties such as Newegg (or TigerDirect.ca in Canada)... instead of directly from Apple, it'll be cheaper at those places. Installing RAM on the MacBook is really easy.

There shipping estimates are very accurate and the shipping is very fast. So if they estimate that it will take 3 days to ship, then expect it to be on the way that day. Also, make sure that you pay the $18 for expedited shipping, especially since it applys to all purchases. And just so you know, my delivery estimate was 11-13 days, it was delivered in 12; and it shipped early morning Saturday from China and arrived Monday afternoon, very fast! If you go through with the purchase, good luck and enjoy.
