Since Steve's' keynote is within hours away, what do you think will be released since we already got new MBP's. It would be cool if new iMac's were released, but I don't think they would at WWDC. I am very excited to see the new secret features of Leopard.

Its odd I've found myself recently less interested in what Steve Jobs has to say and more with what he blogs.

But, i'm gonna go out on a limb here and say they'll talk about Leopard.

My pipe dream? A reasonably priced ($2500ish) 13.3 MBP... so I can return the one i bought in frustration and anger for it instead haha.

I really do hope we'll be seeing a Santa Rosa refresh with LED backlights on the 13-inch Macbooks. The new Macbook Pro's have about the same amount of battery life as the 13-inch Macbooks when used with half brightness.

I think it would be unlikely for the MacBooks to be refreshed again since they were updated only 3 or 4 weeks ago. A 13 inch MacBook Pro or a 15inch MacBook would be nice though.

Hey cycloneguy you're at 711 posts right now. Been to the convenience store lately :D?

The focus of WWDC is Mac OS X Leopard...as the banners that are all over Moscone Center prove. I think there may be new iMacs (that'd be cool), and maybe an iPhone Developer's Kit for third party apps, that'd be nice. Most likely no new iPods, that will probably be in a Special Event that should be coming up near iPhone's launch.

AI or someone other Apple news site reported that there wouldn't be new iMacs coming to WWDC. Not sure if thats true, but they should be updating it pretty soon; its gone as long as the MBP without an update.

Well since the Macbook isn't going to be updated anytime soon, I hope within 5-6 months we'll see Penryn processors and LED backlights on the next refresh. Penryn is still on track for Q3 of this year right?

Not going to happen. Penryn for mobile platforms is not and never was expected before early 2008. There is some hope that desktop processors will roll out Q3 2007, though. Also, another refresh of the Macbook is within the realm of possibilities, even if the chances are very very slim. I expect nothing from tomorrow because Steve is so random that he could either roll out new iMacs, ultraportable Macbook Pros, Cinema Displays AND Macbooks all at once OR he could just talk a little bit about the iPhone release and say goodbye. It'll be interesting to see how wild or boring tomorrow's speech is.

Penryn is the next gen of intel processors. Basically the same as the Core 2 Duo (with some new instruction sets, SSE4 I think), but on a smaller 45nm die instead of the current 65nm process. Benefits are lower power consumption, less heat and/or higher clock speeds.

The Time Machine feature is really cool. This is pure hearsay, but as has been pointed out with conventional file systems such a feature would consume immense amounts of hard drive space. This is why there is some speculation that Leopard will utilize a completely new file system, most like based on the open source ZFS file system. Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ZFS for more details on it. Most of it goes over my head, but my understanding is that you have a basic file, say a text document. You make some changes to that document and save it. The original, unaltered document is still there, and the changes are saved as a separate "modifier" file that refers back to the original for whatever data it needs so that things are not excessively duplicated. The file path available to the user then switches to point to the updated "modifier" file. Rolling back then simply becomes a process of changing the file path back to point back to the original file.

As I said, just hearsay and my understanding. No idea what happens for instance when things are deleted or the disk starts to get full because eventually data with file paths that aren't currently used are going to have to be overwritten.

MacRumors usually has a live blog that's updated with pics, etc. from inside the room. You can also watch it afterwards on Apple's website.

I don't know the history of these conferences, but it seems to me that since the MB was refreshed recently and the MBP just last week, if anything new was introduced today on these laps that I was really looking for and I bought a new one within the last week, I be pretty pissed.

i doubt there would be any updates to the MBP except maybe the LED screen will now be on the 17", or a new mini MBP (seems to be what everyone wants but no consistent rumors about it). the MB was refreshed recently but I don't think they did much more than increase the CPU speeds. i am holding out for either a MB w/ better graphics or a smaller MBP. if I don't get it I will probably wait till Leopard

6 months until another laptop revision.
