Hmmm 1860 for an incredibly more powerful, more future proof, more upgradeable more everything laptop or 2549 for 0 upgradeability way less graphics card crappier cooling i mean cmon now pay 700 extra dollars just cause its lighter and thinner and sacrifice all the power. Pay more for something less powerful ill just never understand how you mac people think. Pay more money for inferior components cause its thinner. Guess thats what mac people do, they pay more and get less gratz you got ripped.

Damn $1860 for a piece of crap that runs windoze, WAY over priced imo.

If I was going to buy a box that ran a windoze, I wouldnt pay anything over $600 from dell.

The only thing that the Alienware can do better over the 17" macbook pro is gaming and for most users in the real world, especially in the professional world, gaming isnt very important. But the mac does everything else way better and a heavily experience to boot.

Oh and NO VIRUSES!! I know where this argument can go to where you can say, "OH but the mac does have viruses! But c'mon, 99% of the users in the real world will never get a virus on a Mac. I can pretty much d/l whatever the hell I want without any worries. The last time I worried about a trojan/virus or even thought about it was when I was handling a PC at school. But the consecutive 7 years of using a Mac, the word Virus as never crossed my mind.

Even better, my 100% computer ilterate mother used a macbook (never touched a computer in her life) and after half the day she's already emailing, surfing the net without even asking me any questions. Its been 4 years now and she hasnt had a single virus or crash. Now my father with a pc on the other hand, had to ask me to trouble shoot pretty much 4-5 times a week. And I already had to reinstall his pc 10 times this past year for crashing or him deleting something important on accident. Oh and I always have to defragment his pc because he doesnt understand this, where a mac you never have to defragment and never slows down.

For experienced users this isnt a problem of course but at least you dont have to keep maintenance like this throughout your usage. Which is such a relief and time saver.

We can afford to throw our money away ... Now go mind your own business.

    I mean, I know you're baiting ... But I'll bite anyway.

Apple makes the best laptop computers in the industry, their relatively sturdy, portable, and have long battery life.

That M17X you're touting ... Is that thing even portable? In the event that it is ... How long before you need to find an outlet?

    Better deal my @$$.

IMHO, software is WAY more important than hardware.

If I had to choose a mediocre hardware that ran phenomenally better software as to a overpriced hardware that will never really fully be utilized by the crappy software (ahem, windoze), I would choose the former.

The alienware is only good for gaming. And it seems like the OP is a gamer so its the right thing to buy for him.

Oh yea and your right about battery life, even on the 330m gt on my 17" i7 macbook pro, I get 11 hours and 35 minutes of continuous battery life.

I remember for my final exam, I went to a building where me and my friends were studying just last week and there were the typical people with macs and pcs.

Anyway, there was this one guy with an alienware mx11 laptop and after an hour and a half session of studying in our group, his laptop ran out of power. As we were in the center of this study area (no power outlets there) but there were power outlets at walls of the area (which is far from the center) he had to wait until there was an available spot to move to the far wall to keep his alienware charged pretty much the whole 3+ hours we were there. He had to keep coming and going to be able to participate with us and check his laptop for whatever reason.

Well we were there for 4-5 hours and afterwards I still had 5 and a half hours of battery life on my 17" and I was running vmware fusion to run windoze XP (still the better windoze imho as to the dumbed down vista version we call windoze 7). I never worry about my battery life and its awesome! The 17" mbp looks better than any other laptops out there, multitouch trackpad kills anything else out there and alot of the times I like using the multitouch trackpad than a mouse (that all pc users carry, poor fools) and my work flow (spaces and expose, I run 6 spaces) is so much faster on a mac than a pc that its well worth the $$.

Maybe when you have a career you'll understand the other uses of a computer.

Wow...only a couple of posts and already bickering.

Thread closed. Discussions of other manufactures' laptop in a non-related manufacturer's sub-forum is allowed on a very short leash because it always leads to bickering/insults etc.

If you are interested in buying one of these notebooks, make a thread in the correct forum(WNSIB).

If you want to post that OSX/MACs are crap or that "windoze" is crap, then do not post at all. Keep the posts constructive or do not post at all.

FYI, This forum has a feature that hides posts of members on your ignore list(look in your UserCP). I suggest that some of you guys look into it...
