IPhone is new and I will get 200-300 in cash
My laptop is an elitebook 6930p 2.56ghz dual core, 250gb HD, 1440x900 screen, webcam, etc
My sister says it would be "silly"
I thought it was a good deal, but now I don't know
It would leave me without a laptop for a few days, possibly a week
I really only want the phone so I can sell it so I can get a MBP 15"
Would this be a good trade for me?
-
Well, those aren't bad specs. Why do you want to trade a decent computer for a phone?
-
even with the problems the phone has you still want it?
-
I'm not sure how much you can sell a iPhone 4 for right now. I don't suppose used ones have a very high asking price given the circumstances. If you can't sell the laptop for just cash and get full value for it, then I would try to get the phone and enough cash to help pay for the new MB15 -
I'm just wondering if it would be a good idea for me to do the trade?
Like would I be able to get a lot of money for the iPhone?
The only reason I want to get rid of my elitebook is because I'm very disappointed in the screen -
I'm seeing new iPhone 4's going for $600 on e-bay, so it depends on how much cash you get along with the Elitebook.
-
I'm only 19 with a few hundred in the bank btw -
-
If it's not broke, don't fix it! The Elitebook will last you a while.
Does your Elitebook have a HDMI port or VGA out?
^Don't hold it that way. 'Nuff said. -

It really is comical seeing so many complaints with the iPhone 4 from non-owners. Yes I can get the bars to drop, but I have yet to drop a call. I ran a speed test while on a call with one bar and it was still working beautifully. I do have the issue with the proximity sensor, but that should be an easy software tweak from Apple. I am no fanboy of anyone; I tell it like it is. In fact, I generally don't like Apple because of their arrogance, but I have to admit they make some nice stuff. None of these manufacturers pay me enough to be loyal to any of them. Whoever has the best products will earn my cash. I have enough confidence with the decisions I make to not have to trash the others (and those who choose the others) to justify my decisions. -

Apple is giving out free cases because the media forced them to. They over hyped it and screwed Apple and it's the only thing Apple can do, You want them to recall the phone for something that can't really be fixed? -
-
^I don't blame the media. Apple makes the launching of their products into some huge world-wide event. People camped out for days to get their iPhone, only to have a $600 phone that has an issue that should have been resolved in the testing stages. Then Steve Jobs casually says to the paying customer to 'Not hold it that way'. Sure, the issue isn't that big a deal since a majority of people don't appear to drop their call from the dropped signal, but if I paid for a $600 phone, I EXPECT it to be amazing with *maybe* some software flaws, not hardware flaws that should have already been taken care of.
Back on-topic, Andye is probably right. If you can get the iPhone and cash, take it and run. The only problem I see with selling the iPhone is that there are so many people selling them now, it might be hard for you to get noticed without being competitive with the price. It depends on what will sell easier and higher- the notebook or the phone. -
On the whole, the iPhone gets better reception than before. Almost all of Engadget's staff reports that they don't drop nearly as many calls as they did with the prior iPhones without the death grip. I don't buy into the antennagate hype.

I believe that it was right of them to make this free bumper/case offer. It affects some people more than others, so the action was needed. -
I have seen the antenna gate issue first hand and it is quite disappointing. I wouldn't pay $100 for the phone even.
-
Then again, I would never pay $600 for a phone. The whole point is to make calls. To each his own. -
I agree that things should work well once you buy them, but I would be willing to use a case with the phone if I used the phone feature all that often. I use my phone primarily for the browser and secondarily as a phone.
Anyway, I would suck it up if I had one. I am locked out of buying one because VZW is so much cheaper on a family plan. -
If my Moto Cliq XT had a similar issue I would have replaced it in a heartbeat. -

That is not going to work out the way you think it is, at all. Do not do that. -

masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
It looks like there are two separate things he is trying to do. One of them is to buy and sell an iPhone 4 with the intent of turning a profit. That is a bad idea because it won't work.
Edit: Nevermind- he isn't buying the iPhone from AT&T so presumably he wouldn't be involved with an AT&T contract. That was my impression at first glance.
The trade is a private trade:
iPhone 4 + cash <--> laptop
values:
(~$600 new) + ($200-300) <--> less than $800
that could be a good trade. -
Just make sure you sell it before July 30th, because then at least in Canada, it will be sold unlocked from Apple, thus, the market will be flooded with iPhones, Which will drop the price, by the end of the month iPhones won't be selling for more then they are worth.
Would it be a good idea to trade my laptop for an iPhone 4 and cash???
