    Hey everyone.

I currently own a desktop running XP and need a new system. I really want a notebook of some sort at it suits my current situation.

I am very keen on video editing and have always used premiere. I have no experience of final cut but am told it is a great program.

Other than video editing, I do like to play games. I realise Macs arent the greatest for this.

DO you think I'd be best spending £1000 on a PC laptop or £1300 on a macbook pro? I want something that will last me a while and is worth the money I am paying.

Thanks a lot for your help

ps. I take it you will need a MBP to run final cut??

gaming... I think you would like a pc better. your lisence for preime are pc only so you would have to buy a new license to install it on a mac.

thanks. Aside from gaming and my current use of premiere, would a mac be a good option? I want to cut down on my games to be honest and I need to upgrade editing software so final cut is an option.

Final Cut is awesome. I'd say most will call it better to use than Adobe Premiere...very versatile.

I'm not completely sure, but the MacBook should be able to handle Final Cut Pro, but obviously the MacBook Pro has the added advantages of a larger screen and screen resolution, etc. If you can afford a MacBook Pro, I'd go for it.

Thanks. THere is a big jump in price - nearly £500. Just got to work out if it's worth it for one piece of software!

Any other input from experienced people would be helpful.

Well, the MacBook Pro has other benefits too. If you think they're good for you, they're worth it :). Stuff like LED-backlighting, backlit keyboard, etc.

I have a new macbook. I'm happy with my choice when I consider the weight and the cost. The MBP cost more and weighs more. The backlit keyboard is not that important to me, nor is the LED screen lighting but they both would be nice to have if money was no object.

With the latest models, the differences between the $1300 (midrange) Macbook and the base MBP aren't that drastic. The MBP has the same RAM and CPU speed but a bigger HDD and more ports. The MBP also uses a heavier charger (85w vs 65w).

You also mention gaming. The MBP is the clear winner in that area with its nVidia graphics chipset versus Intel somethingorother on the Macbook. I'm too busy for gaming so that wasn't something I cared about when I made my choice.

    hope this helps...
