I've been looking for a new laptop and I'm really considering getting a macbook. Many of my friends have it and they simply love using it for classes. I'd mainly use it for everyday tasks to writing code using their terminal.

One thing I've noticed is that the new Macbook Pro should be coming out this year. I've done a little bit of researching and have found that they should have new specs that are better than the 2014 version.

Would you wait for the new Macbook Pro or just go for the 2014 version instead? Just trying to gather some thoughts about this.

You'll pay a premium if you buy the brand spanking new one, and I hardly agree that they are ever worth that Premium price tag. Even waiting 6 months after a release could yield major savings. Were you thinking of getting a 15 retina? or an Air?

Sorry I forgot to specify. I'm thinking of a 13 inch pro, it doesn't necessarily have to be retina but I'm finding non-retinas to be rare and non-retinas with great specs even rarer.
I might opt for an air if the specs fit since I'm looking for something more portable for carrying around in my backpack on a daily basis.

I bought one in December. My previous MacBook Pro is from 2008 and still runs fine though it has the spotlights screen problem. I love the 2014 rMBP and still like my 2008 model (wish Apple would offer a service to fix the screen). I waited year after year after year because I knew that the next model would be better. I am extremely pleased with the 2014 model. I'm sure that I would have been extremely pleased with the 2013 model as well. So you can wait forever because something better will be coming out. Or you can just buy something, be happy with it for a time and then look forward to the next one.

One generation to the next is almost never worth the wait. For one, as noted, they're more expensive and the performance difference is very small. You wouldn't notice it outside of the benchmarks. I seem to recall some fairly attractive prices on MBPr at the Apple's website.

If battery life is important to you I would wait; otherwise I would not.
