You'd have to replace the entire motherboard, which will cost probably a few hundred.

I don't know whether it's worth it but his story underneath was entertaining.

Any idea how hard it would be?, I am pretty good with computer repair and I am always looking to possibly make a profit somewhere.

Didnt read the whole story but it sounds like it was damaged by a spill. If that is the case there may be more wrong than just the logic board. I would say pass.

I see motherboards for less than $400 on eBay...

If you're up for a risk, you might be able to fix it up and make a $200-300 profit. However, I'd only offer him $400 at most, missing the hard drive too...

Don't forget to soak the parts in 91% rubbing alky. Sticky keyboards suck.

I would say $300 is a little high to be asking for stick parts and no HDD. All you are getting is the body, keyboard, screen, CD drive and battery really and I don't think that its worth $300, maybe $150 tops.

Especially considering he only wants to do a local deal which means less potential buyers. I would not probably pay more than $100-$150 since the only part that you know is not damaged is the screen. If it does not power on at all, there is no telling what else does not work.
