hi all, i am wanting to get an ibook, but i want to be able to play WoW. That is the only game i play and i know a normal pc would run it better but i love the neatness of apples. i could get the 12inch, 1.33ghz with 1.5g(would the extra 512 ram make a difference?) RAM or the 14inch, 1.42ghz with 1g RAM. would the 14inch be much better than the 12inch? would i be able to play WoW on either of these without to much difficulty?
also another quick question do these come with software that i could type up like say a word document and if so would i be able to print it out from a normal pc if i transfered it by a usb key? or would i need to buy microsoft office for it?
here is a link to the ibooks:

Yes you will be able to play WoW, albiet not on max settings.
if you are a student, use your discount to get office, otherewise it will come with appleworks, although not the best, it should be able to work with .doc files ( i haven't played with it at all).
Since both the 12 and 14 have the same gpu, it wont make a diff which you have for WoW. -
ok thanku
so would 1g ram be sufficient or would 1.5 be better?
anybody else who knows more info on my software questions any info would be greatly appreciated -
oh, and there is openoffice as free office alternative, i keep forgetting about that one.
I would also prefer the 1.5 gb of ram, as it can really make a difference when you start having ALOT open, which you find you will do a lot on a mac. Mostly b/c it runs so much more stable the windows. -
You also might want to get the CPU usage meter - pretty nifty. It's kinda like MobileMeter for Mac.
-
thanx radcom, wat does open office contain?
xAMDvsIntelx: wats the CPU usage meter?
thanx again -
It basically monitors your CPU usage and what programs are running in the background, almost like Windows' TaskManager. MacMagazine had it in one of its older issues, although I don't know the exact address of the provider. Try searching google - I'll try to dig it out of my magazines. OpenOffice is basically a free word processor, excel sheet viewer/editor, and powerpoint viewer (I think).

thanx xAMDvsIntelx
i checked out open office, but do u think microsoft office for mac would be good? it has good reviews, does anybody have any experiences with it? i would feel safer using that lol -
I have it for my iMac and is great - much better than OpenOffice. However, it isn't cheap (150-200 USD depending upon where you buy), which is why a lot of people who don't want to shell out the cash, get it.

i can get it for $249 aussie bux which isnt bad, take a look

i dont know wether to get the 12 or 14 inch ibook though, so hard to decide -
Well, if you don't need the extra room, the 12" looks like a better choice. It has the same GPU and the same screen resolution as the 14". The 12" is also more portable and gets better battery life than the 14" version. It does however have a slower CPU.
-
ok kool, thanku again
would the slower cpu affect WoW much or wouldnt i really notice any difference between the 12 and 14 inch? -
Not being able to play WoW on max settings on an iBook might just be the understatement of the year. My buddy has a 15" PB that barely runs it adequately. If you're used to good WoW performance on another machine, I'd strongly recommend against the iBook.
-
for the cpu usage thingy, there is the activity monitor that comes with os x that is pretty much the taskmanager for windows.
