I'm deciding witch wireless router to buy with my macbook pro. Should I go with the APPLE AIRPORT EXPRESS for compatibility issues or should I go with cheaper a third party brand since I don't need wirelesly shared HD or printers?

I want my connection to be rock solid, I don't need many features or ports on the router because the macbook pro will be the only thing connected to it. But the connections has to be very stable!

    Any tips?

I'm on a D-Link router (DI-624) with my MPB and my connection hasnt droped yet. I have about 20-30 hours of use on the computer and the connection has been great. I'm downloading at speeds far greater than what I was on my PC with the D-link PCI card. I average a download speed of about 550 kb/s on here as opposed to about 200 on my PC. The reception signal is also better on here.

I would say for the most part any name brand router should be fine. I here good things about the D-Link N routers. I have a Netgear and it drops out fully about every two weeks requiring a power cycle. Linksys used to be really good, but they have started going downhill. Buffalo and Belkin should be ok. Basically most any router will work fine. The AirPort Extreme Base Station is way overpriced for it's feature list. I would avoid it.

I ask that because my first and only experience with wireless computers and routers has been terrible...

My linksys WRT54G drops every 30 minutes, and it does not work with torrents...

I need one that works well with torrents and doesn't drop the connection... If anyone has tips just shoot them I'll be glad!

Buffalo can use third party firmware much like the linksys. The WRT54G used to be really good, the first few revisions, then it started to stink as the newer revisions came out. I still have a V1 WRT54G and GS that i use with DD-WRT free 3rd party firmware. No problems at all with them and i can customize and change a lot of settings with DD-WRT. Currently use one as a wireless bridge and a AP client for the other. You can google dd-wrt and go to their site to see what routers they support if you want to use a 3rd party firmware.
