I started my Imac C2D today to find an airport express update.. 2007-001. I can't find the page at apple, but the few posts I've seen say, apple has indeed confirmed this is the wireless N update. Has anyone seen it yet? I don't know how to confirm on my Mac if it's capability has been increased. This isn't like a huge deal. .I mean it's only 1.99, but still pretty sweet if it's true.

    GOT IT! http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/apple/firmware_hardware/airportextremeupdate2007001.html

It is TRUE! Edit: It's atleast true that Apple has released a confusing statement! =P Netziens are divided still if any new "N" capability has been included, or if this is strictly a security fix

Well that's cool, there was a big article in the Wall Street Journal about how Apple didn't really have to charge for it according to accounting experts so I guess Apple figured that was right. Cool that it's there already and free for you.

Kind of odd to see Apple have a PR goof up like this. They are usually pretty PR savvy.

Have to buy the new airport base in order to utilize it anyhow, no?

D'oh! Unless of course you have another brand's N-router...How silly I am!

I wonder if it's possible to change the chip in core duo so that it can run on wireless N :p

I'd imagine the hardware just plain isn't there on the wireless chip or card or whichever. (edit) oops.. completely missread your post.

All the scuttle butt on the net is doubting it's a real N update. Besides that it says "robust wireless network offering up to five times the performance and up to twice the range of networks created with the earlier 802.11g standard. " Has anyone been able to test this out yet? I can't.. we only have a G based dsl router.

I kinda wish I'd bought a Slingbox Pro versus an Slingbox AV, so I could use an N connection to stream HD. I didn't even know I had an N-capable laptop, but lo and behold I do (a MacBook).

1st of all this is NOT the N upgrade. This is merley a secuirty fix. 2nd, the slingbox does NOT stream HD. It merley allows you to connect an HD input to the slingbox. FYI.

That is correct...The high end slingbox downgrades the HD signal, unfortunately.
