    No.

But, the new AppleTV will allow you to stream up to 720p video from the iMac to the TV via HDMI out from the ATV.

if a TV is capable of streaming from an iMac, then you can set it up. i haven't heard of a TV capable of that, so an appletv or a similar device will work for you.

if you have an xbox 360, ps3, etc you would be able to use those as well.

^That. Plus it's highly likely that the [IMG]TV is going to be much cheaper than a wireless HDMI solution of any kind.

There are wireless HDMI systems, they will cost in the $300+ range, Might as well get a AppleTV for a $100 and it does more.

    1. Interfaces and streams both audio and video directly from iTunes, WD won't.
    2. will stream video from iOS devices in a month with 4.2 update.
    3. Flickr
    4. YouTube
    5. Have to buy the USB adapter separately for the WD to make it wireless.
    6. cheaper

and depending on your media collection and such .. heres a big advantage to the WD unit

does 1080 naitvely and streams from pretty much any computer, drive or network storage not jut iTunes.

    they both have tradeoffs.

ok so which one will play by MKV files? Because that's really all I care about, if wireless then awesome, if not, I'll live. If it works on both I'll go Apple TV.
