    Hello,
I am looking to purchase a MBP :D , and I was wondering if it was possible to put windows on an external hard drive and run the os from there. If this is possible, would it ensure that any virus or bug would stay on the external hard drive and not affect the actual hard drive of the notebook?

    Thank you.

Well as long as the virus actually doesnt destroy the hardware in your computer... (CIH virus or any BIOS corruption viruses) your mac partition will remain fine so I dont think thats your main concern.

As for a bootable external drive, maybe? you need to check your BIOS and see if there is a boot order available for usb devices but I have no expertise in Mac software.

It'd run pretty slow and if you somehow pulled the plug on it, you might be in a bit of trouble.

It seems that this is possible. Here is a thread dealing with it:

I would use a FW drive over USB. Keep in mind though that the only reason to do this is to save space on your notebook drive. Your OS X partition is just as safe on the same drive as on a separate drive.
