I have a windows Vista disk that I got with my old Gateway laptop. On the disk it says Vista Home Premium 32-Bit operating System Disk. Then underneath it is says "use this disk to reinstall your operating system." Does that mean I will not be able to install it on my mac? I have the original COA.

Correct, the copy you have is for your Gateway notebook ONLY. So once your NB dies you need to destroy the CD and Key stickers. So if you need a copy for your Mac you will need to purchase one.

just use that one. lol..

Not sure, but maybe if you have a friend that has a vista CD borrow that and use your CD key from before. See if that works.

It will alert the MS Police. The liesen is for 1 pc ONLY. If you call MS and get it activated they will ask you if it's the same PC. (they can tell by sig key it generates when activated). Doing so will also de-author your original install. It's not legal, spend the $120 for a OEM copy and be legal. If you buy a retail version you can transfer the liesen, but it can only be installed on 1 PC. Unless you buy a site or multi liesen.

I heard that if you Call MS and you tell them that you just rebuilt the PC you can use it. Tom Merritt talks about it in this episode of Systm http://revision3.com/systm/virtualpc/
You shouldn't have to pay for something again once you already bought it. (Yes it may of came with the laptop but it's still in the price) -
In terms of paying for something twice you should keep in mind that you are not buying the software but rather buying the license to use the software.
The license is for one machine install, you have to pay for another license to use it on a different machine. -

only if you are still using it on the original machine.
you have 1 license and 1 key for use on one computer. that doesn't mean that if you UPGRADE your computer you are toast and have to rebuy all the software. you already payed for the license for the software. as long as you are only using it on 1 machine, its fine. even if its a new machine. -

That only applies to the Retail version. The OEM dies with the machine, non transferable.
Windows install question.
