    Hi all,
My 17" Macbook pro just arrived today, and I'm overwhelmed by the mammoth screen and design.. I have winxp pro with bootcamp, but once I tried using partition magic to try to partition the windows partition, it fails to load, and upon using the partinfo program, I reported incorrect start/end sectors of the partitions, which is really bumming me out coz I have no idea what to do to solve it.

Anyways, I uploaded a screencap of what my disk looks like in windows disk management.. is anything out of the norm here? I'm just wondering what's the 200 meg and 128mb unallocated...

Sorry if I sound like a noob! Hope someone has some experience with this problem.

nevermind...seems like this **** was deigned so your mac must use only 1 partition and windows only 1 partition... no further organizing allowed... agrh.
time to make good use of external drives..

Hmmm....good to know. I just picked up a 17" MBP yesterday. Used bootcamp and partitioned the 160gb drive. 60 for OSX and 100 for Vista. I tend to use more windows software hence the biased sizing. Install went super smooth and is running great. I hope I don't run into any problems.

D'oh! I wanted to do a triple boot with Boot Camp: Mac OSX, Windows XP, and Windows Vista. So much for that idea.

Thats good to know that it went smoothly. I'll be doing the same thing when my MBP comes in next week.

Have you guys tried Parallels? Do you plan to use it? I plan to get the demo first and see how it goes before I make any firm commitment to pay the $80 for it.

I ran parallels on my Intel Imac when I had it. It ran fairly well. It was a hassle however for it to find my network connection. I don't even remember what I had to do to get it working but it did. I used it to access certain websites that I could not open or access with Safari and some other Windows proprietary software and it ran smoothly. The only thing is, you have to allocate a certain amount of resouces to parallels. This time around I decided to use Bootcamp instead and run vista. I might run parallels on my OSX partition but I don't think I have enough room. I partitioned 60 to OSX and 100 to Windows....haha. Good luck with Vista. Despite all the haters out there, I have been using it since its official launch with no problems at all. I was actually quite suprised how snag free it was to install it. Only took <30mins the other 1.5hrs was waiting for OSX to download and install all the updates. I will be trying out Vista's FW400/FW800 compatibility tonight. I finally got my new cable so I can use my OWC SATA enclosure with the FW interface instead of USB 2.0. I will report any problems tomorrow.

Thats excellent that things are working out for you for the most part with the Mac. It paints a sunny picture for me when I get mine (I can't wait).

With Parallels, you can start up a partition created with Boot Camp. So you won't have to waste more disk space. I know this is possible with version 3.0, and I think its available on version 2.5 and above too.

It is available, so don't worry about that. I've got a boot camp partition of XP at 32GB and I use Parallels to get into it sometimes. I also use Parallels to run Suse linux.

As for your partition problem. Did you try partitioning the drive when you first did the install of XP? If that doesn't work I'm pretty sure you can set up a partition on your OSX portion of the disk, and then allow for Windows to access it.

Most likely I won't run into any problems when setting up Boot Camp and Parallels. Lots of people on various forums confirmed that they had minimal to no trouble what-so-ever.
