at first i thought it would...but then thought against it..cuz the apple computers have mac on it..and i didn't think u could easily change the OS like you can on an iPod...but maybe u can...b/c it now has intel processors in it??...are there any requirements of having a windows based OS on a computer??...does it actually say anywhere that u need to have intel processors or AMD processors anywhere???????

And with the Intel Macs you´ll have the abillity to boot in XP(if you have installed it...) and run the computer as a regular Win XP PC. As I remember it from the keynote "we are not going to prevent the Apple computers to run windows"(not exact quote).

You´ll not however be abel to run Mac OS X on a regular PC without some kind of crack or homemade solution(my opinion, not sure about the exact facts)

No doubt the dual boot option will be popular... and may help bring people over from the Wintel camp -since they can still run their old/ other Windows based software (& games!) and then switch back to OS X for photoshop/ final cut pro etc.

I'd bet that Apple will lock these features right out of the box...someone will hack it though, then installing XP would be possible. I don't see why Apple would sell their computers knowing you'd dump their OS.

What I hope for is the ability to dual-boot. OSX for ilife and X11 and darwin, windows flavor dujour to play nice with the rest of the world, and for the few finance and engineering applications that are pc only. That would be a dream come true for me!

the whole point of buying a mac is to use OS X... if you want XP, get an Asus, save some money and be happy!

ugh.... the idea of running windows on a mac is repulsive... it's like defiling something sacred.... i could see running os x on a p.c. however.... oh wait ;) .... that's basically what apple is going to start doing with their new intel processors

Basically, it's going to be the OS-X that's going to be out of place hardware speaking, since it will be running on emulation. It's ironic that window will be more "native" on the new macs than the OS-X.
On the other hand, i think the emulation part is done at a very low level, hardwired, so perhaps it wont be possible to turn it off. So if the system multiboots osx and window, osx will be running on emulation, but worst, windows will be running on an emulation of an emulation of something windows was native with in the first place. How insane is that?
If they want to drop all the emulation crap, either intel has to design a whole new cpu for the macs or apple will have to rewrite their whole OS to be able to run on a pc.

There OS has been compiled to run on both powerpc processors and intel processors for the last five versions of OS X. only the programs that haven't been updated with dual binarys will be using emulation.

Theoretically yes, simply because its compiled with the same processor calls, but unfortunately you would have to do some work arounds and hacks to acually get it running because Apple doesnt want it on there!!

IMO i think apple would make more money if their computer could run both OS' but then what would we need two for in the firstplace if we could have both on one computer.

I run Windows XP Pro on Virtual PC 6 on my 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4. It is really slow. It feels like my girlfriend's work laptop running Windows XP Home on a 500 MHz PIII. I hope you're not doing any MP3 ripping or video encoding...
