Just wondering what everyone's upgrade plans are?

Personally, Leopard is awesome for me, and i'm scared that my current software won't work on Snow Leopard, like Pixelmator or Office 2008. I'm also scared of teething problems.

So overall, I think I might hang back a while and see how it goes....

    What about you?

I'm really not too concerned about compatibility issues since i only use my MBP is more of a luxury item for me right now. I tend to use my PC desktop more since I have a bigger screen connected to it and its more powerful than my MBP.

besides that, I'm with you on the hang back a while and see how it goes before I upgrade.

Not unless it is $20 or less. If not I'll get it when my school starts selling the unlimited license copies.

It'll depend on pricing and what I hear about it. So far its promising, and it does seem it'll be cheaper than the regular $129 for a new Mac OS. I'm not on Leopard so I'm more inclined to get Snow Leopard.

very much depends on the price, if its reasonable, then i will go ahead, i do hope they give free upgrades to recent buyers, but thats just wishful thinking

I won't upgrade anytime this year. I'm happy with leopard right now, and will upgrade only when absolutely necessary

It will probably go the same as the upgrade to Tiger for me. I will wait a few months until I have a little extra cash to spend and in the mean time allow them to work out all the inevitable little bugs that made it through testing.

I think software compatibility issues will be non-existent. I am really excited for Open CL and Grand Central. Hopefully we will see some GPU accelerated Photoshop and video encoding soon.

Leopard was buggier than crap when it was released, although over about three months most of the major issues were corrected. I think there was a fair bit of backlash from Apple users (Leopard was Apple's "Vista" although no where near as bad and corrected much faster).

I think Apple learned something which is why they are concentrating on efficiency and reliability in SL so I am hopeful this will be a pretty solid release and plan to go to it fairly quickly.

No, because this thread isn't about those who aren't going to upgrade. It's about how soon the one's that are planning to will.

So if you don't plan on getting Snow Leopard, this thread is not for you. Sorry.

    See above :)

    Rumors include
    - Full 64 bit
    - Transitioning older bits (Finder etc) to Coca
    - Smaller/Faster/More Reliable
    - Mail and iCal get MS Exchange support (this is one I hope is true).

Lost more small things I don't recall but not a lot of major stuff.

I'm a computer speed junky so I will get it immediately for that speed increase. I'll probably do a clean install too (with the new disk format). Leopard already runs fantastically so it will be interesting to see how snow leopard goes. Hopefully it will be less than $100.

I'll hold off for a while. I've still got a G4 and I don't want to upgrade the others only to find that allofasudden the G4 can't come to the screen sharing party any more. I need to read some reviews first. If it's faster and supports the PPC, I'll get it sooner. If it's faster and doesn't support PPC, I've got some thinking to do. If it's not faster, then it better bring something to the table I really need or want or I'll sit this one out.

I think definitely, Snow Leopard wasn't meant to be a "feature-packaged" OS, with brand new iChat backgrounds and stuff like that. I think with Snow Leopard, Apple is more focusing on improving speed and efficiency of the Mac OS, rather than packing more features (and ultimately slowing it down).

Similarly, I wouldn't mind if camera manufacturers started really working on improving photo quality and reducing noise, rather than just adding more and more megapixels.

I don't know, I regard 64bit and Open CL as major features.

After all, 32bit will be alive on PC's for some time, but with Mac's, it will be all but extinct in a few years.

That's another reason i like macs. The speed of development is much faster than PC's :)

Definitely, 64-bit and OpenCL are major features, but what I mean is that the ordinary consumer will not be considering those things as a major update, but it will help speed up the efficiency and power of Mac OS. So they are "undercover" updates, while Leopard had many "on-the-surface" updates, like a new desktop, new UI, etc.

I'll get it within a week or two. I'll have to make sure that some of my apps are compatible, and I'll be ready to go.

I intend to get alot of benefit out of Snow Leopard, with my 8 cores and all ;)

I'm hanging back on this upgrade because I don't use my MBP as much as I'd like to at this time. I find myself using my desktop more since I'm at home more often these days.
